You snooze, you lose…
Well, disaster strikes and it can pretty much be summed up in one comment…”You snooze, you lose…” In my quest to rank first page for the search term “domains” I have been learning a huge amount about search engine optimisation. The things I am learning are extremely valuable and can be applied to any of my domains, but the one thing that is more crucial than ever is never and I mean never stop writing content…It just kills all the hard work you have been doing. I have done a little test t see the effects and disaster has struck!
So what have I stopped doing and what effects has it had on the placement of 3ac in the results pages?
Well to start with I stopped my regular weekly postsĀ about “selling domains on social neworks” and the “top 10 domain name sales.” For the last week I stopped writing content and creating inbound links and pretty much neglected 3ac as a site altogether. I also kept my head down across the social networks to test out the “out of sight, out of mind theory,” and do you know what?…It worked. Traffic and ranking are both down massively. Infact page views for 3ac have dropped just over 80% and it has dropped out of the top 50 pages on Google UK for “domains.” Yes that’s right, out of the top 50! considering that I had got it to 4th page and actually touched the middle of 3rd page the week earlier I cannot believe the difference!
So my theory is proven to true and content is quite clearly king. There is only one thing to do and that is to step it up. I have had a look at some of the competitors who rank first and second page on Google UK for “domains” and realise that I need to increase the number of inbound links by about 50% and estimate that I need to be doing 2 posts per day to boost my content enough. I think it may be time to also integrate myself across a few more social networks to get my online visibility up. Hmmm. So much to do and not enough hours in the day.
So anyway here’s my plan:
I have six categories on 3ac, as you can see on the side bar. I will now be writing one post per day on each category. Every time I do so I will be sending the posts out across a new mixture of social networks, better get registering… I am also going to start registering myself, personally, across social and business networking sites always mentioning 3ac as my blog. Some more external articles will be required and of course plenty of inbound link building. It may also be time to try a bit of advertising or some PR perhaps.
If I am honest its much harder work than I thought it would be, we have a little bet going that I can’t get to page one or “domains” within six months. Which mean I have until August 2009 to get there…not long in the world of SEO.
I better get to work.
