Top 10 domain name sales WE 22nd March 2009
Wow, five weeks have flown by since I started doing my series of top 10 domain name sales posts and do you know what? I am really enjoying it! This week, I have gone for a different approach (as usual) and in line with my new mobile domains category, I have gone out a found the top ten domain name sales for mobile related domains in 2009 so far. So with out further ado, ladies and gentlemen, I bring you this weeks TOP TEN!
Check out the great graphic work this week, a combination of Paint and Powerpoint…nice!
So, a cheeky little selection of mobile related domain name sales in 2009, and here are the top ten thus far.
Topping the list at number one and as far as I know the highest dot nl sale of the year…or perhaps ever? Can anyone clarify? Is the undeniably cool MOBIELETELEFOON.NL which as any linguistic enthusiast will know means mobile phone in Dutch. Screaming into 1st place with a tidy sum paid of $16,900 in a private sale.
The next 9 sales were all generated via Sedo.com, my word the amount of times I plug Sedo on my site you’d think I work for them! They should start contributing. Oi SEDO, dip your hand in your pocket and SPONSOR MY BLOG!!! Oh by the way I’m coming down to the Internet World at Earls Court in London at the end of April, so if you’re gonna be there, let me know and we can hook up!
Moving swiftly on before I get side-tracked…
In at number 2 this week is a domain which I would have loved to get my hands on to develop into a VIP mobile consierge service. Sweet Idea. However VIP.mobi traded hands at $10,099 via Sedo…which was $10,098 more than I could afford…ha ha. Honestly, its a good domain, but at that price it wasn’t something I was prepared to fork out for. you can get carried away sometimes.
Taking third place by just $300 was FUNDS.mobi. I was alwasy interested with this sale as I think it offers itself to be developed into a mobile update service for the latest fund prices on the stock market I have fundsdaily.co.uk which I have thought about using a similar concept for…if developed right it could be a big earner for its owner. I wander what they have in store for it? At the moment it certainly isn’t being utilised as well as it could be…
Skipping to number five on this weeks top ten domain name sales chart is one which I think should have gone for a lot more than it did, so the new owner should be really happy and thats the sale of RSS.mobi for just £3,250. Again I’m staying on the development side here ‘cos the potential for mobile domains is something that will, yes will, take off over the next few years. I know loads of people who have been offloading their dot mobi domains and many other expert domainers who have shoed mobile domaining altogether…more fool them. I’m sticking to my guns, mobile domains will become BIG! You heard it here, probably not first, but definitely said with the most conviction!
Finally the next one I like is in at number eight. Strippers.mobi. Fantastic! I missed out on this, don’t know how, don’t know when, as this would have been a brilliant addition to the site we are developing at the moment called stripadvisor.co.uk. We even have a desktop stripper affiliate program running on it. So strippers for the mobile would have been a cool satellite site to bolt on. My god I’m full of awesome ideas!
Anyway, time is a precious thing for me today, so gonna leave it at that. I think you get the idea from this weeks post that mobile domains are on my mind at the moment. I really do find it an interesting area of domaining, one which is massively overlooked by the rest of the domaining community.

Nice post! But mobieletelefoon.nl was definately not the highest .nl sale this year. SexCamera.nl went for more and there are a few more.
In history, there are some 6 and maybe 7 figure-sales, like voetbal.nl (soccer) and seks.nl (sex, €200K in 2008). Last year, our company bought shoppen.nl (shopping) for 45K euro’s, and trough Sedo relatiegeschenk.nl (business gifts) was sold for 72K.
Hi Stijn
Thanks for the update on the .nl sales. As mentioned in the post I wasn’t too sure, so glad to see I have people listening who are happy to contribute.
Thanks again!
All the best
Gary
