Top 10 domain name sales WE 22nd Feb 2009

So here I go again (on my own!) sorry, a bit of Whitesnake on the mind. Anyway it’s that time of the week again to report on the top 10 domain name sales for the last week that have been reported from around the globe, and a chance for me to give my intellectually stimulating review of each. With out further ado, here is a fresh top 10 after some great six-figures sales were acheived.

The top 10 domain name sales of the week ending 22nd February 2009 in their glory:

1.     Forums.com                       $399,990   Sedo
2.     FreeQuotes.com               $210,000  Private
3.     Wife.com                              $100,000 Moniker
4.     Primus.com                        $33,000     Sedo
5.     Statoil.ru                              $29,718     Sedo
6.     Cristina.com                       $25,890     SnapNames
7.     TravelJournal.com         $25,000     Pvt Sale
8.     DateFinder.com                $19,000     Moniker
9.     PropertyMatch.com       $17,766     Private
10.  EnterpriseGroup.com     $17,500     Sedo

So what’s been going on?

Well it seems that the domain aftermarket has recovered from what can only be considered as a slow start to the first part of the year, pushing home 3 big six-figure sales in the form of forums.com, freequotes.com and wife.com. With respect, all three are highly sort after domains however I’ve been more excited about seeing a good dating domain appear in the short list, and what a great one too datefinder.com couldn’t be more straight to the point and undeniably generic for the dating industry. Beauty! A good one to keep an eye out for in the domain development department.

Traveljournal.com is also an interesting sale. I am always keen to see domains which open themselves up to user-generated content and of course traveljournal would be and ideal domain name for allowing people to post reviews, diaries and general comments about their travel experiences.

If I’m honest the top 10 domain name sales from this last week have been pretty non-descript. Apart from the ones I have commented on, I wouldn’t actually pay a penny for the others…contraversial? Clearly the people who purchased them have different views on their value…
