Top 10 domain name sales WE 15th Feb 2009

I will now be reporting on a weekly basis the top 10 domain name sales from across the industry. So here is the first of what I hope will be many informative and insightful posts.

So here they are:

Dollars.com = $381,150 through Sedo
PZ.com = $61,000 through Sedo
ResortHotels.com = $58,830 through Snap Names
Trusted.com = $50,000 through Sedo
FineWatches = $40,450 through Moniker
CommunityCalendar.com = $40,450 through Moniker
LowRate.com = $40,000 through AfternicDLS
RockleyPark.net = $37,538 through Sedo, tied with DevonCliffs.net = $37,538 through Sedo
Adios.co.uk = $24,310 as a private sale

Its nice to see a .co.uk domain name sneaking into the top ten, this adds weight to my last post on the growth of .uk secondary domain names market. What is also interesting is that although the $380k achieved for dollars.com is a great result, considering it was bought in the July of 2007 for $650,000 shows that prices on dotcoms may have been slightly inflated over last few years…or is the lower sale price only in response to the general slump in domain names sales seen recently during this global recession?

It seems a strange mix of domains this week, the two character PZ.com demonstrates that that particular niche is still holding value and as I speak 92.com is standing at a bid of 41,000 Euros on Sedo, so it will be interesting to see how well it fairs in the top 10 next week. The pairing of the RockleyPark and DevonCliff dot nets is also interesting as these are both areas for caravan holidays in the UK. It has recently been reported on the UK news that because of the recession UK holiday makers are turning to seaside resorts rather than going abroad to save on the pennies and it is said that some UK holiday destinations like Devon have seen increases of 40% in bookings, it seems someone will be looking to capitalise on these little beauties.

I can’t seem to stress the point enough at the moment that domain name sales are strongly linked to current events and especially the economy. Nominet issued a fantastic industry report for 2008 noting a strong correlation of the .co.uk domains and the FTSE 100 index, so be smart and stay on top the news.

As always, I pass on my thanks to DNjournal, Nominet and Sedo which are all referenced in this post. They are a great source of information and I recommend anyone doesn’t already use them to visit them immediately!

Until next time!
