The newest addition to my .mobi domains collection

I’m really pleased to say that I have just completed the purchase of VOUCHERS.mobi the latest addition to my .mobi domains collection.

I had seen it whilst browsing on Sedo.com and had funnily enough been researching the various voucher code sites. When I saw it I couldn’t resist. I had floods of ideas appear in my mind about developing this domain.

The term “Vouchers” is searched for quite a few times a month on mobile search (see below)  and as far as recent intelligence suggests, it’s only gonna get better. I have been doing some research on the subject for some time and think that long term there will be a strong niche for developing domains in the mobile vouchers market. So what better than to have pretty much the most generic .mobi domain for the job. (Vouchers.mobi of course!)

So the next point this brings me onto is how to go about creating a mobile site which will not only rank well for these terms, but also be have the functionality that a market like the voucher codes market needs to be successful.

A few questions come to mind when thinking about the mobile voucher market. Ones which need answering:

• What products are people searching for when they search for vouchers via their mobile?
• How can a mobile format of a voucher code website compete with the web based versions, or should it operate a different model altogether?
• Why would people search for vouchers on the mobile web and where would they then go to use them as many of the sites that offer discount vouchers are not functional on mobile devices or offer products which are not searched for via mobile?
• Would a mobile vouchers site compliment a full web based site?

Could it be used successfully to capture mobile numbers to re-market too, something that many of the existing voucher code websites do not seem to be doing? Well as far as I can see when you search for “Voucher Codes” the top three sites are:

• vouchercodes.co.uk
• myvouchercodes.co.uk
• vouchercodes.com

I couldn’t find a mobile site link at all and when you register with them they are more concerned about email capture rather than anything else.

I have found Voucher Cloud who offer mobile vouchers via an application rather than through search and as you can see from the search results below they differ greatly from the web based results, suggesting to me that mobile vouchers have yet to really hit on.
