The importance of blog links in the Mobile SERPs

Over the last few months we have found a strong trend to suggest that the results in mobile search on Google are heavily weighted on whether or not a mobile site has inbound links from external blogs. Common sense would suggest that because blogs are generally expressing an opinion about something or someone then if the blog is already well ranked and has decent PR then its credibility is passed onto the site it is linking too. This seems to be exponential however in mobile SERPs in comparison to PC-based search results.

A test we had been doing with animationfc.mobi found almost instantaneous results when we created a handful of inbound links from external blogs for the term “spurs animations.” Here were the results last week. Well done Tom (Tom Thurston at themobiledeveloper.com) Now with Google being relatively fickle they have dropped out of the rankings again, demonstrating the challenge that .mobi domains present to pc-based search at present. Possibly because the extention is extremely new in comparison to .coms, being just 3 years old.
