Slots.com domain sells for $5.5m

The domain name Slots.com has sold via Moniker for $5.5m. the highest domain name sale of 2010 and the fourth largest publicly reported domain name sale since 2003. But the biggest question in my mind is whether it is actually worth it?

The acquisition completed over the last week between Moniker and BodogBrand and cements the strength of the online gambling industry and the value of gaming domains.

According to Compete.com the domain currently receives around 15,000 visitors a month and ranks first page on Google for the term “slots.”

Estibot estimates the domains value at $736,000 and although it can be classed as a category killer domain, is it really worth $5.5m and just how long will Bodog need to wait to earn back their investment?
