Selling domains on social networks 9th March 2009
Last week I wrote a post about selling domains on social networks which was an experiment to see how using Twitter and Mixx would generate traffic to my domain name listings. For the experiment I uploaded 72 domain names onto auction site Sedo, which are all genuinely up for sale with no reserve, so yes you can bid on them!
One week later here are the results…

domain name sales
Opposite are the top 20 performing domain names in terms of the amount of visits to their individual offer pages on Sedo. I’m actually quite impressed with the level of views they have all received.
Obviously the online gaming domains seem to be the most sort after but it was nice to see a couple of one-worders (forked.co.uk and offline.biz) amongst the most viewed.
As usual, finance domains have performed well accounting for 8 of the top 20. Finance domains always seem to get plenty of views, as they are relatively easy to monetize with sponsored links etc.
Needless to say a couple of niche domains have found their way into the most viewed too, in particular my little favourite being mothersdaycards.co.uk, but also blognow.co.uk a short and snappy domain name fit for any budding blogger!
Looking at my analytics, Mixx and Twitter faired pretty evenly in terms of visitor referrals to last weeks post and considering that I did no other advertising for the listed domains, I would like to assume that both social networks contributed the majority of the visitors, rather than people searching for them directly on Sedos home page. I’ll have to see if there is anyway I can track this accurately.
Now that I have some concrete figures in place to refer back too, it will be interesting to see what the next weeks selling domains on social networks results will be. Hopefully we will find that some offers have been made, and maybe even a sale or two, that would be nice! So without further ado, its time to get posting again on Mixx and Twitter. Will there be any significant changes to the top 20 over the next 7 days. Will we see any new domains gain a position in the list?
Stay tuned for next weeks edition of SELLING DOMAINS ON SOCIAL NETWORKS
