Welcome to 3ac.co.uk

This is my blog about domains and domain name registration. From hand-registration, investing in the domain names aftermarket to using domains for online marketing purposes, these are my thoughts and opinions spanning 10 years of experience in the industry.

I am pretty active in the UK domain name community and you can usually find me stirring up public opinion about things I like or dislike, I pull no punches and am always open to discussion. So if you have anything you'd like to say, feel free to get in touch!

1&1 Domain Names Saga Over?

For those of you following my trials and tribulations with 1&1 Internet since January this year it looks likes the saga may have finally come to an end. I have received what appears to be refunds on pretty much all the domain names I have disputed and then have not been re billed for ones which I had rightly cancelled. It has only been 6 months but I think I may have finally got there and hopefully have cost 1&1 some business in the meantime by being so open to my audience with the poor customer services which I have received from the web hosting company. › Continue reading

Google Captcha – Trying To Be Clever?

I was just doing some keyword research for some domain names I am interested in and saw this as a Google capture:

Google Captcha Test

I wondered what they were trying to do and remembered that the whole point of the Google Capture was to translate written words, basically getting anyone who uses their keyword tool (which is a lot of people) to do the work for them for free. Will Google ever be able to create a machine that can pass the Turin Test?…

Any way I took one look at the equation and for those of you scratching your head, the answer for that part of the Google captcha is “t d y.”

So Google is now getting the public to answer mathematical equations. Or in this case I believe it is some sort of differential equation for an unknown function. Unless anyone can correct me, its been a while!

Domain Names For Sale In July

This month sees a slightly modified list of domain names for sale in July. This month sees the addition of a couple of new ones, a few old ones (to see how the market is) and some non-uk domains like, iCharge.com, Snow-Boards.com, Offline.biz, HotGirls.mobi and UnsecuredLoans.me to name a few.

I always like to keep listing a mixed bag of domains for sale, you never know who may be looking around for a good deal. Certainly all of these domain names have their uses, from generics, to retail to finance to services and a collection of 23 two-character .org.uks.

Clients first, domains second

It can’t be helped but as One Result [OR] get busier and busier with new clients I have found myself neglecting 3ac.co.uk; so what was a 2-3 posts per week blog has now dropped to about 2-3 posts per month. Not where I want to be but as it stands priorities need to be adhered too. Clients first, domains second. As we now hit the 3rd phase of our recruitment drive at OR (taking our numbers from 7 at the end of 2010 to 17 of us in total now) there are significantly more things to manage and tougher mountains to climb. › Continue reading

I Tried Sir Alan, I Tried…

Ok so the title is a bit tongue in cheek but some of you keen eyed domainers may have noticed that Amstrad.co.uk dropped today and is no longer under the ownership of Amstrad Computers Ltd. It seems strange that a company would be letting its name drop like this? Perhaps its an oversight, so on the 4th of May I though I would try and do a good deed by attempting to back order it through Domain Monster, so that if it had been dropped by accident it could be returned to its rightful owner. › Continue reading
