Welcome to 3ac.co.uk

This is my blog about domains and domain name registration. From hand-registration, investing in the domain names aftermarket to using domains for online marketing purposes, these are my thoughts and opinions spanning 10 years of experience in the industry.

I am pretty active in the UK domain name community and you can usually find me stirring up public opinion about things I like or dislike, I pull no punches and am always open to discussion. So if you have anything you'd like to say, feel free to get in touch!

ME.UK Domain Names. Putting To Bed The Stigma

the stench of me. uk domainsThere has never been more stigma around a domain name extension (apart from .mobi, perhaps) than with .me.uk domain names. In my experience, UK domainers simply don’t attach any value to this extension. Certainly the black sheep of the .co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk family. However like I did with .mobi earlier this year – selling one in January this year for £3,500 – featured on DNJournal.com. I intend to prove the majority of haters wrong.

So let’s get something straight before we kick this off. Domain name extension doesn’t matter when it comes to SEO. A good UK keyword domain will rank just as well as any other. Co.uk, Org.uk and Me.uk are all equals in the SERPs.

It is funny how there is a certain snobbery within the UK domainer scene that co.uk is THE domain name extension. Certainly for resale value I agree, but when it comes to developing domain names to rank in the search engines, for what ever purpose, let’s get real it doesn’t matter. So let’s put it to the test and get a .me.uk domain name ranking with the minimum effort possible and put the stigma to bed once and for all.

Domain Name Registration SEO

I’ve been taking things a bit more seriously on the SEO front recently and have begun to focus on getting 3ac.co.uk to the first page of Google for “Domain Name Registration.” At the moment the first page is made up of the main domain name registration companies such as 123-Reg, Domain Monster, Net2 etc. and I intend to get my blog into the mix and stir up the industry. › Continue reading

Panda, Link Building and Domain Name Registration

As many of you will be aware the last few months has seen companies rise and fall as Google’s Panda update decided which links to your website it should cull and whether or not it should continue to rank your website at all. These updates to Google’s algorithm have had a profound affect on many domainer’s sites where they have been developed and ranked based on the domain name and a load of low quality links…stop cringing, we’ve all been there! However more recently I have taken the stance that to compete with the big boys you just have to differentiate your self from the rest. Make your link profile unique. If you look do everything the masses do, Google cannot differentiate your site, so stand out from the crowd get links from places your competitors don’t. Find better quality links than your competitors, get more relevant links than your competitors.

Keyword .org.uk Domains Test

This weekend I decided to run a test and see where it goes. The test was to build a really basic site, literally no frills, which is dedicated to advertising keyword .org.uk domain names. I conveniently have the domain name KeywordDomains.org.uk which couldn’t be more appropriate. So 1hr and a bit of dream-weaving later the site was up and running.

Domain Name Swap

Today I completed a domain name swap. Its not something I have done too much of, but when there is a domain name you want sometimes you have to consider alternative methods of acquiring that domain name. Anyway a few days ago I managed to snipe the last bid for Develops.co.uk on Domain Lore for just £70 which I felt was a bargain. Unfortunately that week I had, by mistake, missed out on the auction for CampSite.org.uk which I was particularly annoyed about. I managed to catch up with the owner on Twitter and after a brief exchange of emails we negotiated the swap of Develops.co.uk for CampSite.org.uk and DropCatching.org.uk…even better. › Continue reading
