Mothers day domains
With exactly one month until mothers day in the UK and then the international mothers day for the US, Australia and pretty much the rest of the world in May, there’s a great opportunity to capitalise if you own any good mothers day domains. I’ve got a cheeky little number under my belt with mothersdaycards.co.uk.
I bought it a couple of months ago, at auction, but I’ve decided I’m not doing anything with it for this year’s mothers day; I’ve bought it for the long term… a nice seasonal earner for myself to play around with. I can develop the domain for very little cost, set up an affiliate scheme with an e-cards company or mothers day gifts website etc. and get to work on some PPC marketing. However the beauty on this will be undertaking some quality SEO and get this domain ranking organically for the long term.
I paid £750 for the domain, over-priced I think personally, but I really liked the idea of it and making £750 back from it will be a doddle. One to re-sell? I think not. This one is going in the 3AC recession-proof pension pot!
I’m going to be on the lookout for more “seasonal” domains similar to this and update you on my progress. Keep watching…oh and if you would like to suggest any other ways domains like these can be developed, or if you follow a similar domain strategy, please share your comments with us!

Hi Gary,
I recently bought the premium domain christmascards.co.uk as I believe there is a real market for the online sale of greetings cards and having been in the greeting retail business a few years ago I know a lot about it.
Most families spend about £30-£40 on christmas cards so there is a real market there in card sales alone and also big companies pay a fortune for corporate christmas cards which is a market I may look to target.
As mothers day only comes once a year and people only have one mother the actually money to be made from card sales from your mothers day domain may be limited. However, the cross-selling you can do from it will really make money; flower sales online are huge at the moment, with some great online florists such as bunches and clareflorist out there. Another thing is chocolates and of course perfumes, all having high affiliate commissions and could do really well.
I like the domain and don’t think the £750 you paid for it was unrealistic.
All the best,
Russ – christmascards.co.uk
Thanks for the comment Russ, appreciate your feedback, especially with regards to the cross-sale opportunities that could be explored with mothers day domains.
I’m also glad you don’t think the £750 paid for mothersdaycards.co.uk was over the top…nice to hear the views of someone already involved in “seasonal” domains. Cheers, Gary
