Mobile link building Part 2
Today I had a conference call with Tom Thurston, one of the top…actually, THE top mobile web developer in the country about my mobile link building idea, to aid with mobile seo. (Don’t worry Tom, you can give me £20 for that plug later!) I have created a document which has pretty much taken me the last 3 hours to type up detailing the new concept, the theory behind and how we can go about turning it into a working prototype. The basis of my idea was formed when studying the adult industry’s link exchange/traffic trading programs…No I wasn’t just looking at the naughty stuff, it was purely for research purposes! (For those of you who may think that the adult industry is taboo, in terms of SEO, think again. Like the online gaming/casino industry they are on the cutting edge of new marketing and SEO ideas, many of which are leaps and bounds ahead of what many of us will ever achieve.) Anyway, I noticed a common theme across many of the networks which lead me to look into developing a link building/traffic generating platform which could be implemented to drive traffic to a single target mobile website, which would benefit from an accelerated placement in the mobile SERPs.
I have had to be careful to not fall beyond the depths of white-hat mobile SEO, past the grey area and into black-hat land, but I think we all venture somewhere in the greyness or else we wouldn’t progress anywhere, right? Right. So I thought about what the search engines would view as link-farming and other underhand tactics and what the humble web surfer would class as spammy and just plain annoying and stayed well away. I want to add value.
The concept has evolved into somewhat of a “bigger-picture” type scenario where by we can grow a volumous yet healthy catalog of inbound links, via an automated process.
This brings me onto another part of online marketing which influences my ideas. Viral Marketing and the process of “seeding.” For those of your who are familiar with viral marketing, we commissioned a viral game in 2008 which received over 1.5m plays in 2008 alone and has been played 78,329 times this month, which as far as some viral campaigns go is only a fraction of the traffic which can be generated. Those of you who are now going WOW that’s alot of traffic, feel free to contact me at gary (at) 3ac.co.uk (replacing the “at” with @) and I will tell your more about it. But for now I am adopting some of the viral marketing principles and link exchange processes to form my mobile link building project. I have actually thought of a few names for it, to be announced, but they are pretty cool.
So there you have it, I’m not giving too much away at the moment because its TOP SECRET for the moment it allows to you get a sense of what we are creating. Its exciting stuff. I will be documenting the whole process from foundation to full working prototype, so please stay tuned.
