Mini-sites, a whole new world
Its funny, but when I normally land on a mini-site I usually leave straight away because I rarely find they offer any value to my search. However I was having a little play around this morning and googles “mini sites” to see what would come up. What I found was a great example of utilising mini sites to not only build PR but also traffic to your site and develop a cool network for your domains.
In this instance minisites.co.uk came up as the top spot on Google. The site itself in not aesthetically pleasing, which is probably its biggest downfall, but any way, I then clicked on “belief” to be taken to belief.co.uk, a good example of how a mini-site can be utilised to earn revenue; topical content and a sprinkling of adsense to go with it.
Scrolling down to the bottom of belief.co.uk you will find a text link “UK Generic Domains” taking you to genericukdomains.co.uk a nice and tiday PR 3 site with a few pages and again some topical content which is at very least worth a glance at.
Heres where we find the owners more valuable domains appearing and this guy I am sure I have met onTwitter, so if you are reading this, it would be nice to have a chat and perhaps do another more indepth post about your .co.uk minisites. I have to say I am a great supporter of .co.uk.
What I scrolled down to at the bottom and caught my eye was “Netbooks” the text link to…wait for it…NETBOOKS.CO.UK! Which I might add I was extremely surprised to find as a parked page, obviously though as it is up for sale through Sedo.
But what a great domain, netbooks retail at anywhere from £150-350 and the new Sony thats out is about £800 or so. Turning this domain into a netbook review site would be great. Its as generic as they come. From a statistic point of view its a PR4 site with about 2000 inbound links so it has perfect foundations to be developed from domain to full blown e-commerce website.
Anyway, I saw it so had to write about it. A great example of using mini-sites to gain exposure for your domains.
