Local SEO for IFAs
I have spent the last couple of days glued to Adobe Dreamweaver building my new mobile web development project, IFAs.mobi. An awesome premium .mobi domain which will be a directory for Independent Financial Advisers utilising local SEO to rank top in natural search. I am just configuring my server and will be uploading the site shortly for you all to see.
I have done some testing on various make-shift sites since October last year finding out what works and what doesn’t for various local SEO techniques when adopting them for mobile search. What I have found in particular is that meta is still important for mobile sites as they tend to contain a lot less content for search engines to devour, they do still need to be “told” what the mobile site is all about.
Remember, meta data does not necessarily make your site rank better in the SERPs, you still need to make your content relevant and build quality links to it. But this is where having a a good mobile link building strategy will make a massive difference.
One thing I wanted to recommend and the reason for this post was the mobile sitemap generator I used today and have used on many occasions but never mentioned how good it was. Introducing XML Sitemaps. This great site allows you to:
- Create an XML sitemap that can be submitted to Google, Yahoo and other search engines to help them crawl your website better.
- Create a Text sitemap to have a plain list of all your pages.
- Create a ROR sitemap, which is an independant XML format for any search engine.
- Generate an HTML site map to allow human visitors to easily navigate on your site.
One thing I found out though is that if you are creating an XML sitemap for mobile content pages you do need to make amendments to the generated XML sitemap that is created. Taking out all the priority and last modified bits and add in under the <loc></loc> parts the mobile indicator <mobile:mobile/>. Haven’t got a clue what I’m talking about? Use the contact us form and I’ll tell you in more detail.
Seriously, you should
