Lead generation or advertising space to rent?

It’s a Sunday morning, I’m sitting in my living room at home with my two dogs and a nice cup of rooibos tea. Its been a busy week at 3ac and a large financial services project has been playing on my mind. I went to bed last night thinking about it and still it has me scratching my head. Don’t you hate indecisive moments?! Anyway…

I wrote a post last year about monetising domains and this year have found myself in a quandry of whether the money earner should be lead generation or selling advertising space on the site to local businesses or larger product providers. The mortgage advice directory has been developed with local SEO in mind but before I can continue any further though, a decision needs to be made as to whether the aim should be to attract visitors searching for mortgage advice there and then, or visitors who are looking to find mortgage advice in their area. Its a whole question of do the visitors want to fill in their details or be given the opportunity to just find a business and give them a call.

Begging the question, lead generation or advertising space to rent?

Currently exploring Lead Point to sell the leads through, which I’ve used before but have also been looking at using an A-Z type directory idea getting local mortgage advisers to pay for a listing in their area. Both ideas have been flogged to death by other websites and companies which is why I want to spend time getting it right and don’t just want to re-invent the wheel. I still like the thought of using Google Maps and Local SEO and as I am writing this I am swaying down the route of selling the space on the site to mortgage brokers who want to advertise their business…

Help.
