Hitting a brick wall with SEO
So it turns out that I have got to a point in my SEO plan for 3ac.co.uk where I feel like I am up against a brickwall and I’m not quite tall enough to get over it. I recently managed to get 3ac.co.uk to hit first page of Google for a very brief period for the keyword “domains,” however since I took my foot off the accelarator, by bringing some other keywords into the mix, in particular “buy domains” and “cheap domains,” the site has slipped back down the rankings. So what can be done to get back over the SEO brick wall?
I have been playing around with the on-page optimisation of 3ac.co.uk, trying out different keyword densities, positions and out going links, attempting to get the optimum mix and now believe it to be as good as I can get it.
The options I have in front of me are to generate more content on a regular basis, which at the moment I feel should be about 2 posts per day. Something which I am struggling with due to other work commitments.
The second is to improve the link building campaign, however I have been very sparing with the links I am building to my domains, I want them to appear natural and also be of the highest quality. Domain name SEO should be all about quality not quantity and this only comes with time. 3ac.co.uk has now been live for 18 months and my SEO campaign on full throttle for 12 months. These next few months are crucial to the success of getting a first page ranking and staying there so I can’t really afford to mess it up by attempting any ven slightly black hat SEO methods…that goes against my ethics.
Perhaps it is time to start introducing more media into the mix, in particular domain name video tutorials. I have been working on a YouTube channel for a UK mobile downloads website which is now getting over 1,400 visitors per day. This may be something I explore with 3ac.co.uk. I did some posts about videos and SEO last year.
I have also looked at PR building where I buy domains relevant to the domain name industry which already have PR and inbound links and either 301 redirect them to 3ac.co.uk or develop them into mini-sites with a strong, in-context keyword link back to 3ac.co.uk. Thie method, although more expensive than natural link building and SEO can improve results in a short period of time. The issue is trying to find domains which are OK to use and would compliment your SEO strategy. Not such an easy task as one may think.
So I have been speaking with Dave Carruthers, MD at One Result, over lunch today and he is currently having his team work on a new design for 3ac.co.uk, (because my graphic design skills are pants) and he suggested a certain keyword research tool which he had found which could really help with my SEO plans, saving me time and also helping me to find niche keywords with lower competition yet still a good search volume. Really looking forward to what they have in mind for the new and improved 3ac.co.uk which also includes a premium WordPress theme, how exciting.
Anyway getting back on track, I suppose that if I want to get over this SEO brick wall then I need to up the posts on 3ac.co.uk to two a day minimum. Morning and afternoon?…The next will be to continue with the link building as it is already, I am happy with that. The following will be to improve the media on the site and the more I write the more I think a YouTube channel could be a good way of gaining more exposure adding some viral marketing hopefully into the mix.
Watch this space.
