Google maps and local SEO
I’ve been playing around with Google maps to help gain exposure for a mortgage advice directory I am developing. I have created a map widget which can be embedded into any website. The idea behind it is to plot various locations on the map and at each location add a pin marker which loads into a bubble containing a link. The text link then takes the visitors directly to the desired landing page, in this case an enquiry form for mortgage advice.
The site is designed to be basic and with one function, use local seo to capture traffic to generate leads from people looking for mortgage advice in a specific area and put them in touch with local mortgage brokers. I will soon be rolling out some affiliate banners too. Already the site is generating several thousand visitors per month and I haven’t finished all the location pages yet. Check out the Google Map I created…

I have made this example pretty simple with the yellow mark denoting Birmingham, UK. If you click on the location marker the bubble will pop up containing the text link to the location landing page for Birmingham. Simple. By sharing the map across various social networking sites and other linking to it because it is a useful tool, you will inadvertently build links into the map making it rank better in Google Maps, resulting in more traffic to the site.
the map has now had just over 2,800 views since I created it on Feb 5th 2010. So not bad for three weeks.

I simply can’t believe how many individuals send spam on websites, especially personal blogs just for the sake of some link juice. I need to stay alert all day even with fantastic plugins like Akismet. I don’t want to imagine what would happen to my sites if I didn’t had this kind of protection. Get a solid job spammers!
I agree Mr Marketing Guidebook…
Don’t you just hate it when people use the name of their website in a crap bid to get link juice to their site…
