Domains; an SEO update, getting to number one for “domains”
Its sunday afternoon so it must be time for my regular domain name seo post. You may remember me talking the other week in a geo-domains post about revamping 3ac, because I want it to rank first page on Google UK for the word “domains.” Well I have been working hard with building links and adding more valuable content, not to mention trying to clean up the navigation and have made leaps and bounds up the rankings.
So what have I been doing and what have been the results of my efforts. Well I may as well start off with the good news. I have made a massive leap from being originally indexed at page 32 to then sneaking up to page 19, now to feature on page 6 of Google UK. Not to bad for a week or so’s work. Don’t forget this blog was only launched in February 2009, so the trust factor on Google is still be experimented with. I have done some decent link building, including a nice placement in DMOZ. I have been regularly posting relevant comments on other people blogs and receiving links backs. I have written some good external articles and received links back for those and feature on a few sites as an “expert” which has also given me some great PR. Of course I have integrated myself with a handful of social networks including Twitter, Mixx and Facebook, so maximise exposure and gain some strong online visibility and targeted traffic.
Much of my work has been done creating unique content for 3ac. You will notice I do not use RSS feeds at the moment to generate extra content. The reason for this is because I wanted to get myself into the habit of writing my own posts and comments, which come from my own thoughts and ideas as opposed to just changing round what someone else has said. I’m pretty sure as a result of this, and because I write in a very natural way (I literally type what I am thinking) that the search engines have plenty of food to feed from. There is nothing better for a search engine spider or robot than to find new and unique content in different formats of media, such as video, text, flash and images each time it arrives at a site. It gives variety and shows that your site is gearing itself up to provide a positive experience to your visitors. Obviously having people make regualr comments and having a growing amount of inbound links, not to mention improving traffic numbers, makes the search engines stand back and say hey, this guy is taking alot about domains, and people are not just listening, but liking it too! I HOPE!!!
If you have been following me over the last couple of months you will have noticed that I have been doing a few experiments as I have been getting 3ac up and running. All domain name related and have including a top ten domain name sales post, a selling domains on social networks post and now moving forward my own niche areas of interest, domain name seo, mobile domains and geo-domains.
What I like to think, and I don’t mind being corrected on this from an SEO point of view, but I’m gonna stick to my beliefs either way is that if I rank well for my niche areas of interest, and these areas of interest are all around one main topic, in this case domains, then when I have built up a solid foundation of well structured content and start optimising it for the main topic or the keywords I want to target. I will start to rank fairly rapidly. Once Google has done a full update and 3ac has gained a decent page rank say PR2-3, we should find that its placement in the organic results receives another boost and remains consistantly well ranked.
Of course my stated intention is to rank first page on Google UK for the word “domains.” I’d like to think I can do this by the middle of May 2010…A tall order? Watch this space.
As always I would appreciate any comments your may have on my thoughts and ideas.
Looking forward to seeing 3ac at the top spot for domains soon! Woop! Woop!
Cheerio
