Domain names, SEO and SAScon

sascon mini conference

So I haven’t written a post for a while, and looking the back over the last couple of months I am ashamed to say I have neglected my blog, but not having missed a month since January 2009 I could not let October be the same…Good job the clocks went back today, it’s given me that extra hour to think of something to write!

I have been doing a lot of SEO over the last 8 – 10 weeks with some great new clients coming on board through One Result and what I have enjoyed doing is buying up cheap domains to help with various SEO and PPC strategies. A good keyword domain can work wonders for a campaign micro-site or a PPC landing page. I nice couple I picked up recently for One Result were AppDevelopment.org.uk and CoventrySEO.co.uk, for double digits, which goes to show bargains are still out there.

I am also pleased to announce that I have been asked to speak at the SAScon mini-conference on the 24th of November. The title of my talk is to be confirmed but it will be around domain names, SEO and affiliate marketing. I am excited at being a guest speaker and having spoken at conferences like Think Visibility to warm receptions I hope SAScon will be similar.

On a personal note, this weekend is also the three year anniversary since I was admitted into hospital with acute liver failure and it was not until I came out of hospital two months after on the 22nd of December that I decided to start this blog. I guess it was the shock of how things can so quickly be turned upside down that made me want to begin writing about domain names and sharing any knowledge that I had with others in the industry even new or old. It was this passion to share that has contributed to me being asked to speak at events such as SAScon and Think Visibility and appear as an online guest speaker and blogger on sites such as Bido.com and DotSauce.com. The American domain name market always interested me as the numbers were always so much bigger than in the UK. Dot Com is still and always will be the best investment you could make, not saying that you can’t make money in any other extension, god knows I’ve proved you can, selling a .mobi of all extensions in January 2011 for $5,500 when everyone said the market was dead… Buy low, sell high is the name of the game and it doesn’t matter what name it may be as long as you cover your costs of ownership from when you purchase it until you sell the domain (and don’t be stupid enough to sell at a loss of course!)

I have to say however as the market becomes more and more saturated with domainers and as more and more of the “premium” domains are being held onto for longer either being developed or just parked as part of a larger portfolio the average domainer is now having to think smarter and come up with new ways, niches or markets to make money in. It’s probably this very thing that I will end up talking about at SAScon; various monetisation methods, different ideas for developing domain names, how to identify new markets or penetrate existing ones in a unique way.

My natural link building methods this year have surprised me in their success, especially for 3ac.co.uk and without doubt the positive affect of my 1&1 rant which is now referring a steady flow of visitors on a month by month basis (even more now that 1&1 are advertising on the TV.)

Any way, I’m rattling on as usual but have enjoying checking in again tonight – mental note to self I need to do this more often!

See you again soon :-)

If you’re the same gary taylor that uses emaillistrentals.co.uk to send out RAC spam, you’ll be delighted to know I’ve just added all your details to every “unusual” porn site i could find.

    Dear Michael

I am not the Gary Taylor who owns emaillistrentals.co.uk or emaillistrental.co.uk either. If you check the Nominet Whois records you will see that it is a different Gary Taylor. If I were to send out spam I would have the intelligence not to use my personal details

If you have an issue regarding the email policies of said emaillistrentals.co.uk or emaillistrental.co.uk I suggest you contact them directly via there main website http://www.emaillistrental.co.uk or by simply calling their main number 0844 567 3257.

I would also advise that if you are going to make threats like this or take action in an uneducated manner that you at least have the decency to contact people properly and provide your real contact details, instead of hiding behind an anonymous comment…
