Domain names, Google and hyphens

I was browsing around over the weekend and found some interesting articles on how Google interprets hyphens in search and how this relates to the weightedness (is that a proper word?) of keyword domains for search engine placement. What surprised me though is  that there is still a big divide within the domain name industry as to how important or valuable hyphenated domain names are to a domain strategy.

My view remains impartial, a domain name is only as important or valuable as the development and marketing efforts that have gone into it. It would be interesting however to gain the views of any SEOs out there and see what their thoughts are utilising hyphenated domains for search engine optimisation campaigns. Comments please…
