Domain name SEO, who’s sending visitors to your domains?
Domain name SEO tip, keep a close eye on analytics. Do you know which websites, blogs or online resources are sending traffic to your domains? If not, how do you know which sites you should be nurturing relationships with, or focusing more efforts on creating exposure for?
Do you know your top ten referring sites for the last week. If the answer is no, then why not? Surely you should know where your biggest audience is coming from. If you know the answer to this you can the research the type of things they like to hear to keep them coming back for more. Now this post really relates to those of your who are developing your domain names as opposed to parking them. Providing your visitors with the right content and user experience that keeps them returning is a crucial part of domain name seo. Careful attention to analytics like this will allow you to build quality inbound links and generate traffic from trusted sources, maximising the potential of your referral network.
Here is a list of my top ten referring sites into 3ac.co.uk over the last week.
An interesting mix of domain related websites, social networks and article sites. Top this week is bido.com (thanks guys) where I am on the panel of experts. Second is Twitter, but what is interesting to see is that techcrunch.com has appeared at number 3. I wrote a controversial comment about al gore and doteco domains a few weeks ago, so nice to see this has come back around to send traffic my way.
9 and 10, the two article submission sites I spoke about in my last domain name seo post shows that a little bit of effort publishing content externally can generate some relevant traffic. If you are not publishing articles elsewhere as part of your domain name seo strategy then you should certainly consider it.
Mixx and Stumbleupon are two other sites which always refer a steady amount of visitors to 3ac, mainly because everytime I write a new post, I manually submit a link to each. A lot of effort but it reaps good rewards.
In summary, this may be a bit of a no brainer, but monitoring which sites send you traffic also allows you to see which sites send quality visitors, affecting your bounce rate and page view figures. But more importantly which visitors are going to the places you want them to go to on your site.
So there we go, why not jump on your analytics today and find out which are your top ten referring sites to your domains. Then why not do something about it like post a comment on their site, refer some traffic back or just generally get involved.

[...] As you can see from the table above, Twitter has beaten Mixx this week with the number of referrals, however the results are massively skewed so I haven’t included visitor figures. Last week I feautured on Bido.comas a guest speaker for one of their domain name auctions. On the lead up to that they had sent out emails to their registered users, tweets on Twitter and a post on conceptualist.com. All these lead to a much larger increase in numbers ofr Twitter referrals to my selling domains on social networks posts. I also mentioned the post title during my interview on Bido, so now doubt that have an effect too. But more fuel to fire on why you should get involved with social neworks and how raising your own profile certainly does help with traffic. If you haven’t already, you may want to have a look at a post I wrote last week on Domain name seo, who’s sending visitors to your domains? [...]
