Domain name registration
Contrary to what you may think, domain name registration is a very straightforward process. However if you are new to all of this look no further, here is my quick guide to domain name registration.
So you have a cool name you wish to use in mind, how do you go about registering it and out of all the providers who should you use?
Firstly you need to see if the domain name you want to register is actually available in the extension that you want (extension being the .com, .net or .co.uk etc.) A simple way to do this is to use the domain search tool at the top right hand side on this site, gosh I make this easy for you!
If its available then brilliant, get on and register it!
There are hundreds of companies that will offer domain name registration services to you however make sure you use a reputable one. I personally recommend using www.1and1.co.uk thats where I register most of mine, I use them because they are based in the UK and their customer service department is excellent. However there are other good companies out their like GoDaddy.com, 123-reg.co.uk and domainmonster.com to name a few; all of which have good levels of service. See which one takes your fancy and register an account with them.
What if the domain name I want is not available?
Tough luck matey, if someone else has already registered the domain name you want, you may have to look for an alternative extension, or some other variation of the words your intended domain contains. You could try adding hyphens between words for example. There are many domain name suggestion tools for helping you out with this dilemma, visit domaintools.com and use their suggestions search bar, its throws back some pretty good alternatives that you may be able to register instead. If you feel really ambitious you could even try to buy the domain name from the current owner using a domain broker or contacting the owner directly, you can usually find registrant contact details on the whois database.
I’m still confused about domain name registration…
