Does article writing actually boost your domains ranking

Am I just wasting my time with old hack when thinking about article writing as a way of boost my domains ranking? I have recently amended some of my existing articles on ezinearticles.com to put this to the challenge. First of all I want to see if they generate much traffic, secondly I want to see if they pass on any PR at all to help my domains in the SERPs

So the articles in question include (there are more on my Ezine profile):

First of all these articles are acheiving about an 8% click through rate, but they have only had a few hundred views over the space of the last 12 months so that in my eyes was pretty much a waste of my time writing them…or was it?

What if some of these visitors contributed to the sales via my site? What if they were actually very targeted visitors that converted well? Is it worth exploring more to see if an increase in traffic to the articles will directly account for any increase in CTR and ultimately sales?

Sceptical about articles generating traffic?

Read this article from ArticlesBase.com. its had over 3 million views in 2 years with a direct link to the authors Ebook…

Now on a CTR of just 5% (less than what I’m getting on EzineArticles.com) that’s 150,000 click throughs = 75,000 visitors per year or about 6,000 per month…not too shabby.

What about PR?

I’ve been looking for article websites that pass PR from their articles to you own website and many only do “no follow” links so from a search engines perspective they don’t mean shit.

Take this example, in fact no stuff it, try it for yourself, I challenge you to find an article website that does actually help with SEO…I’ve checked PR on hundreds on articles and they are rubbish…if you can even find one. Google won’t be bothered with them. Yahoo site explorer picks them up but what does that mean, why do I want to rank in Yahoo and not Google?

The only benefit as I am researching this topic is if you are prepared to think of bulk volume. If you want to generate a few years worth of steady traffic  (and build a load of inbound links to your domains along the way – because don’t get me wrong the links from the articles may not be great quality but you will get other people link to you which is vital) then you need to look overseas. You can get articles written for next to nothing often less than $1 per article check out FreeLancer.com especially this section for Bulk Article Writing.

Now if you spend $1,000 on 1,000 articles and each article receives between 500-1000 views per year and you get a 5% CTR which are quite conservative figures really you would be getting 500,000-1,000,000 views per year which would be about 25,000-50,000 visitors per year clicking through to your website for a $1,000 investment.

Something worth considering?

Ok so I’ve strayed off from the title of my post, perhaps it should have been called “Don’t use article writing for SEO, use it for building traffic to your domains!”

At least its food for though…apply the maths to your sites conversion rate. Worth a punt on $1,000?

I’d love to hear your experiences in article marketing

Thanks

Gary
