Digging out some old domains for development
I have been trawling through my domains and found a couple of little gems which I had forgotten about. Don’t you just love it when that happens? As you know I am an avid .co.uk and .mobi supporter and my primary focus is on UK search so these two will come as no surprise to you that they are keyword rich .co.uk’s. Both hand reg’d last over a year ago on one of my domain registration sprees no doubt…
So what are they I hear you ask? (drum roll please maestro…)
- FlyFishingBooks.co.uk – Fly Fishing Books
- BabyConverse.co.uk – Baby Converse
First of all let’s see how they weigh in based on today’s statistics:
FlyFishingBooks.co.uk:
A strong niche with a good following. Fly fishing has a dedicated online audience and with a monthly search volume of about 3,600 EXACT UK, it has an average CPC of $1.18…not much but think affiliate/amazon store for selling actual books and the return will be a lot better. Estibot appraises this domain at $1,000. It was hand registered for £1.99 during an offer with 1and1.co.uk
BabyConverse.co.uk:
My girlfriend actually chose this domain with no experience in the industry just because she likes the product and what a great choice too. Baby Converse trainers/sneakers are big business and with over 9,000 EXACT UK searches per month and an average CPC of $1.56 this really could be a nice earner. Estibot has appraised it at $4,100. Again a £1.99 hand registered bargain from 1and1.co.uk.
Based on me feeling rather nostalgic about my domains this evening I think that flyfishingbooks.co.uk may have moved up my list for development this year!
Why not check out some of your own domains that could be lying there gather cyber-dust and remind yourself of the reason(s) you purchased/registered them and the potential you saw in the domain(s) to start with. Is it worth spending a few hours developing and doing some link building too them to get them to rank and generate traffic?
FlyFishingBooks.co.uk has made me think otherwise tonight, so what domains will you save from the drop zone?
Gary

Hi Gary,
Does it bother you that Converse is a trademark in the footwear niche wrt to potential DRS threats and suchlike if you develop the site?
Ty
Ty
You are absolutely right and by you posting a comment like this so soon after I have written the post just goes to show you can never be too careful with trademark infringements
New domainers beware it is not adviseable to attempt to develop domains which could trigger a trademark dispute
Ty, would you be prepared to write a guest post regarding domains and trademarks and the technical legal aspects etc?
Best
Gary
