Online Marketing & SEO
Online Marketing and SEO in 2012
I have been posting on 3ac.co.uk now for three years and I am disappointed with myself that I have been silent for the last couple of months and to be honest I am annoyed about it. I don’t like having genuine gaps in my archive of posts, but let’s not dwell on the past as it is time to look forward into 2012.
I am going to touch on online marketing and SEO in this post and what I feel will be big in 2012…
Domain names, SEO and SAScon
So I haven’t written a post for a while, and looking the back over the last couple of months I am ashamed to say I have neglected my blog, but not having missed a month since January 2009 I could not let October be the same…Good job the clocks went back today, it’s given me that extra hour to think of something to write!
I have been doing a lot of SEO over the last 8 – 10 weeks with some great new clients coming on board through One Result and what I have enjoyed doing is buying up cheap domains to help with various SEO and PPC strategies. A good keyword domain can work wonders for a campaign micro-site or a PPC landing page. I nice couple I picked up recently for One Result were AppDevelopment.org.uk and CoventrySEO.co.uk, for double digits, which goes to show bargains are still out there. › Continue reading
ME.UK Domain Names. Putting To Bed The Stigma
There has never been more stigma around a domain name extension (apart from .mobi, perhaps) than with .me.uk domain names. In my experience, UK domainers simply don’t attach any value to this extension. Certainly the black sheep of the .co.uk, .org.uk and .me.uk family. However like I did with .mobi earlier this year – selling one in January this year for £3,500 – featured on DNJournal.com. I intend to prove the majority of haters wrong.
So let’s get something straight before we kick this off. Domain name extension doesn’t matter when it comes to SEO. A good UK keyword domain will rank just as well as any other. Co.uk, Org.uk and Me.uk are all equals in the SERPs.
It is funny how there is a certain snobbery within the UK domainer scene that co.uk is THE domain name extension. Certainly for resale value I agree, but when it comes to developing domain names to rank in the search engines, for what ever purpose, let’s get real it doesn’t matter. So let’s put it to the test and get a .me.uk domain name ranking with the minimum effort possible and put the stigma to bed once and for all.
Social media leverage – the why and how of connecting with the connectors
The following is a guest contribution from James Agate (@jamesagate) founder of skyrocket SEO, an SEO and Social Media Marketing Agency in Chester.
Laziness is a condition that afflicts many people and it is often assumed that when we talk about concepts like social media leverage, we are really just looking for a shortcut and a way to feed the desire to find the quick way of dominating a market.
However, the social media leverage I am talking about is about marketing smarter rather than marketing harder. Identifying targets and piggybacking off some of their authority and success as a way of skyrocketing your social media marketing efforts.
It sounds almost calculating but, as social media marketers, we shouldn’t forget that what we are really doing is trying to sell more stuff and make more cash (usually) – if you take the ‘marketing’ out of social media marketing then all you are left with is social media and that kind of just translates into wasting time on Facebook and Twitter.
We are told to be the authority in the market and whilst this is an admirable longer term goal, in the immediate future you need a strategy that gives you some of the right attention now. › Continue reading
Does social media automation actually work?
Guest social media post contributed by James Agate, founder of Skyrocket SEO. Find me on Twitter (@jamesagate)
Let me introduce you to a little experiment of mine. Dubbed Newsrush, it’s a twitter based news aggregator. I created it back in 2010 by doing nothing more than registering on Twitter, aggregating multiple news feeds using xfruits and then setting up Twitterfeed to publish up to 5 posts every 30 minutes. Total time investment around 15 minutes.
I decided against the usual route of adding hundreds or even thousands of followers because it has almost been proven beyond doubt that mass friending generates a following.
The point of the experiment was to see if people actually value an automated curator and to determine how easy it is to gather followers without following them first. › Continue reading
