Can free WordPress blogs help with SEO?

I am doing a little test at the moment to see how free WordPress blogs can help with SEO and link building. What I like about the free wordpress blogs on wordpress.com is that they convert to mobile format automatically for you, so there is no messing around building a mobile site and could be a perfect little addition to your SEO and link building strategy when talkin about niche products/services or industries.

I’ve taken to creating two free blogs based around my secured loans venture. One is called Apply for Secured Loans Online and the other is Home Improvement Secured Loans. I have done two posts on each and then syndicated the posts across a number of article websites and directories, with hard links back to the domain which will become my new secured loan comparison site. What I am trying to establish is whether I can get these blogs to rank in the mobile SERPs for their titles (which are pretty longtail really, so it shouldn’t be too difficult) and if they will refer traffic via the article syndication sites.

It will be interesting to see the affect that article syndication sites have on mobile seo I’ve often found writing articles long winded, boring and not very much use, however I notice that many business still focus a lot of time, effort and money on article writing to create converting traffic and inbound links. What experiences have you had in this area of online marketing? Do you have a mobile website which you drive traffic too with articles? I’d love to hear from you.

If they do rank in the mobile SERPs then I have justification to create a mobile version of my actual secured loans site to see if I can generate traffic and ultimately leads from mobile web users.
