A poor week for domains

In this weeks domain name sales update we have pretty crap selection in the top ten. If I’m honest I’m pretty disappointed with the quality of the domains and amazed that some of them reached the prices they did. But who am I to point the finger, one mans crap is another mans gold. So let’s see what when on in the world of the top ten domain name sales.

In order of highest price sold:

  1. Capture.com sold for $53,200 through Sedo.com
  2. WHIB.com sold for $48,600 through Sedo.com
  3. IPS.com sold for $37,505 through GoDaddy.com
  4. HomeOwnersInsurance.net sold for $32,000 through SnapNames.com
  5. BoyTube.com sold for $18,000 through HuntingMoon.com
  6. VibrationPlate.com sold for $16,120 through Sedo.com
  7. ClinicalWaste.com sold for $15,000 through Afternic.com
  8. Neue.de sold for $12,400 through Sedo.com
  9. Tahoo.com sold for $11,701 through NameJet.com
  10. M4.se sold for $11,156 through MissDomain.com

So what’s in these domains?

Ok so 1, 2, 3, 4, 8 and 10 are not developed.

BoyTube.com (VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED: Explicit sexual nature) VibrationPlate.com, ClinicalWaste.com and Tahoo.com are all examples of developed domains where an investment has been made in a new generic domain perhaps to improve search engine placement or type in traffic to the site. Either way the aim is to enhance online visibility and drive traffic to the sites via the domains purchase

I think that ClinicalWaste.com is probably the best purchase in this weeks top ten domains. Why? Well, search for clinical waste on Google UK and the company is currently paying for PPC ads to rank for that particular search term. The purchase of this domain will give them a great advantage in the SEO game now and hopefully we should see them ranking well soon. Good luck it’s a great domain. And before any of you Google worshippers or “SEO experts” out there say that domains do not hold any weighting in the SERPs, they do. Fact. This is a smart acquisition by Direct Hygiene and I hope the domain serves them well.

The other nine, well I can only say that they are pretty naff. An LLLL.com out selling an LLL.com just goes to show that domain valuations mean nothing (AVOID EVER PAYING FOR A DOMAIN NAME VALUATION FROM A SO CALLED “VALUATION” COMPANY THEY DON’T MEAN SH*T SO DON’T WASTE YOUR MONEY!)

An Tahoo.com…WTF? If its meant to be a typo of Yahoo.com because “Y” and “T” sit next each other on a keyboard how much traffic do you expect to get that will actually convert to business redirected to an article site…$$$ in your pocket? Return on you investment? For almost $12k it will be interesting to see how long it takes for that to earns its “value” back…

It would be great it there was more regulation around domain name valuations just like with property surveys in the UK. Perhaps “domain valuation companies” should have to gain some sort of qualification or accreditation from a registrar before being allowed to sell their services to unsuspecting victims and bring a bit of stability to the domain valuation market a governing body perhaps like RICS for property.

Some food for thought.
