News for domains

I was reading an interesting post the other day about using the date at the start or each blog post and having your blog included in Google News either by direct submission or by using a guaranteed platform like PRweb.com. As you know I’m always looking at new ways of gaining exposure for my domains and then sharing the ideas/methods behind this with you guys so I’m giving it a try. First of all I have submitted 3ac.co.uk to Google News for a review to possibly be included in the listings. So why should Google say yes?

Well to start with I think I provide a pretty unique outlook on the domain name industry with my domain name SEO posts and Top 10 Domain Name Sales updates. I have been interviewed on Bido.com the domain name auction site (R.I.P) and for have featured in the UK press for previous online projects such as a UK loans website which featured in Mortgage Strategy and Loan Distributor magazines in 2008 and also won Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the Midlands Business Awards for my work in online Financial Services.

So that’s my little CV out of the way, you can follow me on Twitter too @garyptaylor so come on Google. Include me in your news! :-)

So what’s the benefit on having your site featured in Google News?

Well type in “domains” into Google News and see what come up. Have a think about how many people subscribe to Google News, in particular for Technology or Domain Name news and then think of the effect that having your site pop up on the first page of Google (at the bottom where the New items are featured) will have on the traffic to your site. Not only this, it is targeted traffic, getting in front of people who want to read more about what you have to say. Your end users. AND if they like what you are writing then they are likely to either subscribe to your feed or link back to you in some which will keep on benefiting you.

Having looked at Google News for the word “domains” the updates come infrequently in comparison to other industries; the top ten having being written over the last couple of weeks. So it would be nice to get in there and add some more domain name industry news into the mix and possibly encourage other notable domain name sites to get included as well. More exposure for the industry as a whole would be great.

Are there some guidelines for being listed in Google News?

Well, of course your site needs to have some standing or authority to be listed and some other factors as well. I have had a good look around at sites which can give good pointers on the subject from a personal experience of being listed and found this article very useful.

In response to point 3. of their article, here’s where I might fall over, I didn’t clarify these points in my submission. but seeing as though this is the first time I have tried let’s see what they come back and say.

Hopefully the fact that 3ac.o.uk dates back to 2002. I have been blogging about domains on it since January 2009 and have built a pretty decent standing in the domain name community. The site is listed on DMOZ is linked to by some other pretty high profile domain name related sites.

Will keep my fingers crossed…perhaps though Google won;t like my last post…sorry Google I was only testing you out!

Awaiting your response!

Gary
