I’ve got around 60 domains with 123-reg and although they can be good they can also be very frustrating. My main gripe is when you purchase a domain from someone who already has it on the 123-reg tag.

There’s nothing you can do apart from get the original owner to push it to you but in the situations I’ve had I’ve not been able to get the old owner to do it. I’ve therefore been forced to do a TAG change direct with nominet and pay £12 to move the domain to another registrar!

    Thanks for the feedback Jon

I have heard that to from other people. Seems strange that they still seem to make users do it that way…

I’ve found their wordpress hosting slow and glitchy.. never had a problem with other wodpress hosting services.

I would avoid using them for anything personally.

Condoms, they protect you from infections but not from rubbish companies. If someone ever invents a rubbish company condom, 123-reg will be the call to action.

I used to have around 100+ names with them.

One day I came to build a site on one, and found the DNS wouldn’t update. I tried waiting until eventually I checked the Whois and found it had been registered to another 123-reg customer just days after I registered.

Upon checking my invoices, I found nearly a dozen names over many months which had been paid for, but not registered or registered to someone else.

There were occasions where I registered the same domain many times in one day, thinking my payment hadn’t completed, only to find I was charged many times.

When contacting customer support, I was told there was an error in my details, but their team was correcting it as an when I registered 100+ domains, but in the YEARS I was a customer, never bothered to tell me or actually correct the error.

If you like taking risks, try roulette, but avoid 123-reg like the plague.

Avoid 123-reg like the plague. They automatically setup a Paypal auto-renew even when I have disabled this (in my paypal account) in Sept 12. Paypal were good and launched a fraud investigation right away.

Online support is near useless and many people have issues with billing. Once upon a time they were OK – NOW I look elsewhere to order domains.

I echo previous comments – AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!
Not sure what the rest of their support is like, but billing and billing support is a total nightmare. I have been billed twice for some domains and billed for others that have already been cancelled or transferred. And getting them to refund the incorrect charges is a NIGHTMARE.
Use them at your own risk (though there are plenty of other better and cheaper companies out there) – and if you do, don’t let them store your billing details.

I bought a domain a few months ago. I tried to log in the other week, and I was told my account doesn’t exist. I checked through my emails and found confirmation of my username and log in. I tried to request a password reset as it wouldn’t work, and was told my account does not exist still. My next step was to contact their support via their website, to be told to call a 0845 number to find out what the problem is. Umm no, I am not paying to wait on the phone for them to resolve a problem they have created! Why not just communicate with me online? Dreadful!! Stay away! I have paid £8.38 for a domain I cannot even use!
